What is Rote Memorization and How It's Ruining Your and Your Kids' Future

Rote memorization is a process where students are racing to grab those A's like they're slippery golden nuggets. It's a magical process where you repeat something so many times that it's forever etched into your brain, like the lyrics to "Baby Shark." 🦈🎶

Off topic, if you haven't watch the 'baby shark' video then after this blog, you must watch it. It has around 13,000,000,000+ views on YouTube.

What is Rote Memorization?

Poof - gone

Rote memorization is like trying to teach a parrot Shakespeare. "To be or not to be, Polly wants a cracker!"

I remember back in the day, I used to cram so much information into my brain, it was like playing a game of Tetris up there. History dates, chemical formulas, and Shakespearean sonnets all squished together. I'd walk into an exam, my brain ready to puke out those facts. And guess what? As soon as the exam was over, poof! Those facts vanished into thin air faster than my self-esteem after a bad haircut.

I mean, think about it. When you were in school, you had to memorize the periodic table. Yeah, because nothing screams "essential life skill" like knowing the atomic number of francium.

Spoiler alert: it's 87

And what was the obsession with dates? Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492? Sure, he did, but why do you have to remember all that when you can google that in an instance or use google map if you have to goto India from Amsterdam, right?

That's where our education system needs help. Education isn't about collecting fancy alphabets like you're trying to win a Scrabble championship. It's about understanding the world around you, having the tools to navigate through its complexities, and being able to come up with solutions that don't involve just vomiting facts like a parrot with a PhD.

What's the solution?

Concept before Answer.

The ground reality is that excellent grades are good but only until you are in college. In real life, people only care about your ability to think on your feet, to solve problems, to contribute meaningfully to discussions, and to navigate through life without needing a calculator to figure out how much to tip at a restaurant.

swiss army knife

Swiss Army brain

You see, understanding concepts is like having a mental toolbox filled with versatile tools that can tackle any problem that comes your way. It's like having a Swiss Army brain – ready to slice through problems, screw in solutions, and even open a bottle of knowledge when you're feeling thirsty for wisdom.

And that precisely what FluxyAI is doing. Our mission is help everyone learn the underlying concept before provding the actual solution of the problem. Because like it or not, you don't need more tuitions, you don't need more study time, what you need is focused personalized learning so that you can learn at your own pace.

So, let's say NO to rote memorization and say yes to understanding why things work the way they do, to being able to apply knowledge creatively, and to having a brain that's more than just a storage unit for random facts. Because at the end of the day, life isn't a grade parade – it's a grand adventure, and it's up to us to make the most of it.
